Murchison Falls NP

Murchison Falls is one of best spots for sport fishing Uganda. The banks of river Nile from both sides of the park (southern and northern sides) which fall from the falls have been recommended by many participants to offer the most exhilarating challenge to passionate anglers. The famous Nile perch is found in this powerful and highly oxygenated water of river Nile and on record, a Nile perch worth 108 kg has been caught in Murchison falls. The best of all is that you have the same opportunity to catch a Nile perch of the same size or even much bigger. There are some other species of fish which can be caught in Murchison falls and these include; cat fish and tiger fish.

Advance booking for sport fishing in Murchison falls is required so that you acquire the sport fishing permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority and intended anglers are advised to come along with own fishing equipment like multiplier fishing reel and/or Mounted spool.

Mount Elgon

Within Mount Elgon, there is Sipi River which is located above the highest of the three water falls around the Sipi area near Mount Elgon National Park.

Sipi River is where sport fishing in Mount Elgon can be conducted and this river allows charming fishing opportunities to anglers who also boast for a clash with the rainbow trout because of its fighting skills and coloration.

Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo is one of Uganda`s most rewarding fishing destinations with over six species of fish. The most common species of fish in Lake Mburo National Park is Tilapia fish and Mazinga is the only gazetted area for sport fishing in lake Mburo. Please carry your own equipment while you come for sport fishing in Uganda`s lake Mburo National park. A sport fishing permit is also required here!

Sport Fishing in Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria in Uganda has proven to be the most favourite for sport fishing in Uganda because it is the nearest place for anyone arriving into Uganda using Entebbe international airport. Fishing trips in Lake Victoria are available at all times and to all anglers. Sport fishing can be conducted throughout the year in Lake Victoria. However, the best time for sport fishing in Lake Victoria is from October to March. You expect to make some big catch of fish weighing between 10 to 100kg and the main method of fishing used in Lake Victoria is   rolling with lure. Fly fishing method can also get you some small tilapia weighing between 1-2 kilograms.

You do not have to board a plane for a sport fishing safari in Uganda in Lake Victoria with all your sport fishing equipment, some equipment like life jackets, electronic fish finder, first aid box, GPS and lures for trolling the perch can be provided here. Sport fishing in Lake Victoria is commonly done near the islands using 4seater speed boats and canoes.

Sport fishing trip in Lake Victoria begin from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 5pm. Full day trips run for 8hour while half day trips go for 4hours and the exact fishing spots are determined basing on the prevailing weather condition which is usually favourable in the Pearl of Africa!

It is therefore possible to visit Uganda for one safari and undertake many tourism activities like sport fishing in the various water bodies available in different directions of the country

Sport fishing trips begin from 9:00am to 12:00pm, then from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, and a half day trips lasts 4 hours while the full day trip lasts 8 hours and the places to fish are determined based on the prevailing weather conditions.
